The EQ Chronicles
Noone tells you much in EverQuest, not even makers of the online RPG, Verant. You have to learn it for yourself the hard way. Take my level 20 Bard for instance, who recently gained the ability to wield two weapons at once. “What would be a good second weapon” I ask my friends innocently. “The Polished Granite Tomahawk (PGT),” they say. “Where do I get that?” “At HighPass Hold.” “Is it tough to get?” “Not really.” So off I trek to HighPass Hold to find the Gnoll who drops it.
Twenty or more hours of camping at the so-called Gnoll Ledge and two of the sought named gnolls (who drop the tomahawk when slain) later, I am still PGT-less. Both the boss gnolls who turned up after hours of fighting their underlings were taken out by guards who were out of position before I could finish them off, costing me the drop (monsters killed by guards drop nothing). So I’ve had enough. Forget this camping thing. I really want that PGT because it’s special ability effectively makes me invulnerable for a short time by absorbing damage, but hang it. I’m off to the East Commons Tunnel to buy my next song.
Now the EC Tunnel just happens to be a major trading point. Oh yeah, you can buy stuff from other players. I knew this but in the rush of actually playing I forgot. Less than an hour later (after being mesmerized by all the green text scrolling up my screen faster than I can read it advertising mouth watering items for sale by other players ) I’ve invested my life savings of 65 platinum pieces into a PGT someone didn’t want. After the day or more of fruitless camping, this seems ludicrously easy. Along the way I get offered immense amounts for other items I have - money which could conceivably buy me bigger and better items.
I loved the days of Diablo Battlenet trading, but EQ trading is all that and then some. I’ll be at EC for a while, I’m thinking.
